Kodak, TN-Nine run second leads to Smokies 10-3 win over Chattanooga Saturday Night at Smokies Park in front of 20th largest crowd of 6,334 fans
The Smokies exploded for nine runs in the second inning off Lookouts starter Justin Mallett to pace a 10-2 win Saturday Night. Twelve batters would come to the plate in the frame collecting eight hits. Jorge Cortes got things started with a bunt single after a walk put runners on first and second Chris Robinson laid down a sacrifice bunt. Joe Simokaitis then delivered a run scoring single. Matt Craig followed with a pitch hit two RBI double running the score to 5-2. Josh Kroeger, later in the frame lined a double off the center field wall and two more crossed home. Then Casey McGehee crushed a three-run homerun to left finishing the nine run inning.
Paul Schappert pitched a solid four innings in relief for the win. Schappet gave up one run on four hits and fanned five.
He came in after Justin Berg struggled in the start going only two innings. Berg walked five, hit a batter and uncorked a wild pitch in yielding two runs.
Sam Fuld went 3-for-5 in the win while Kroeger had a 2-for-5 night that including three runs driven in.
Tennessee and Chattanooga will continue the series Sunday evening 5pm at Smokies Park. Kevin Hart (2-3) will get the start for the Smokies while James Avery (4-2) is schedule for the Lookouts.
