METAIRIE, La. (AP/Sports Overtime) -- The New Orleans Saints' seven draft picks and 12 rookie free agents reported to the team's training
headquarters Saturday for the first day of a three-day rookie camp.

It was the first chance for Saints head coach Sean Payton and
his staff to run the new players through practices.

Payton has closed practices to the public. However, the rookies
who perform to the coaches' satisfaction this weekend will return
in early June for minicamp with veteran players.

The rookie camp marked the Saints debut of first-round draft choice Robert Meachem. Meachem -- who played in high school at
Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla. -- was a top
receiver at Tennessee, where last season he made 71 catches for a
school-record 1,298 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Saints chose him with the 27th overall pick in hopes he can
fill the void created by the departure of Joe Horn.

However, during a press conference on Sunday, the former Vol wideout said he was fatigued during Saturday's practice and didn't report to camp in the shape that he needs to be in. Meachem also injured his left ankle during Sunday's practice.
