Knoxville, TN. (WVLT-TV) The 42 member Tennessee All Star high school football squad has begun practice for Friday's night's 24th annual and possibly final meeting against their neighbors from the Blue Grass state. Executive Director Bill Marbet of the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association says lack of sponsorship in the series is forcing game coordinators to take a serious look at discontinuing the yearly classic. He says there would be more interest in the Volunteer state in a game which would include only Tennessee players. An East vs. West Tennessee All Star game could be played he says the Saturday after the State Championship Games or even that week by using All Star players not competing for titles in the various classes.
And the Tennessee squad heads into what could be the final game in the series with a 15-8 advantage in the 23 games played so far. Kentucky does hold a 5-4 advantage in games played in the Blue Grass state, where once again, Friday's game will take place.
The Tennessee squad is coached by Morristown West head coach Don Woods. Among those on the team, Alcoa standout Chris Shiverdecker as well as UT signees Dennis Rogan of Fulton and AE speedster Anthony Anderson.
