Just one day after throwing a perfect inning in the 2007 Futures All-Star Game, former Tennessee pitcher Luke Hochevar (2003-05) was informed by the Kansas City Royals Monday that the organization was promoting him to Class-AAA Omaha. Hochevar had been leading the Class-AA Texas League with 94 strikeouts in 17 appearances with the Wichita Wranglers.
The Class-AAA Omaha Royals are 42-49 this season and stand in third place in the Pacific Coast League’s American North Division.
The Omaha Royals’ home facility is Rosenblatt Stadium, which hosts the NCAA College World Series each year. Hochevar previously pitched at Rosenblatt on June 17, 2005, during Tennessee’s fourth-ever CWS appearance.
Hochevar, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2006 draft by Kansas City, is the 13th former Vol to be active this season at the Class-AAA minor-league level or higher.
