Meachem, Saints Agree To 5-Year Deal

July 24, 2007

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- First-round draft pick Robert Meachem has agreed to a five-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. The six-foot-two, 214-pound wide receiver was selected 27th overall after leaving Tennessee following his junior season.

New Orleans' deal with Meachem means the Saints managed to get all seven of their draft picks in the fold before they are due to report to training camp in Jackson, Mississippi, tomorrow.

Meachem is expected to compete for the starting job that opened up when the Saints released veteran Joe Horn, who has since signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Associated Press says the total value of the contract exceeded $11 million with a signing bonus of more than $5.7 million. They also said he was wise to not hold out as the money pool was shrinking since the Saints had already signed everyone except him.
