The ever-popular course on UT football, presented annually by former
UT sports publicist Haywood Harris and News Sentinel columnist Don
Ferguson, “Big Orange Football Warmup and More,” is being offered
again this year -- its seventh season.
This year’s kickoff speaker will be Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator John Chavis.
Other speakers include Knox County Juvenile Court Judge Tim Irwin, a
former Vol who had an outstanding pro career with the Minnesota
Vikings; Dewey “Swamp Rat” Warren, the Vols’ 1967 national
championship quarterback; and John Ward, legendary “Voice of the Vols.”
An extra special bonus this year will be an appearance by Vol
Basketball star Dane Bradshaw, who will be there with copies of his
hit book Vertical Leap.
The course always attracts the biggest number of people attending any
program offered through the UT Non-Credit Program. Sessions are
scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on two consecutive Mondays -- August
20 and August 27 -- in The Wolf-Kaplan Room, on the ground floor of
Neyland Stadium where recruits are hosted.
Moderators for the class include Haywood Harris, a longtime Vol publicist, historian, and author; and Don K. Ferguson, author and News Sentinel grammar and history columnist.
