Tennessee head men's golf coach Jim Kelson announced the Volunteers' 2007-08 schedule this week.
The Big Orange will participate in five events this fall followed by seven events in the spring leading up to the NCAA Championships.
The Vol golfers open their season with the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sept 14-16. The tournament will be held at the Farm in Dalton, Ga., for the 19th annual running of this event.
Next up for the UT will be the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields in Chicago, Ill. The Vols most recent trip to Chicago resulted in a 5th place finish at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional and a berth to the 2007 NCAA Finals.
The Big Orange will then head to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Ridges Intercollegiate Oct. 12-14. In 2006, the Vols took home the team championship with senior Philip Pettitt tying for the individual championship.
The Vols finish out the month of October with a trip to Greensboro, Ga., for the Hooters Invitational. Tennessee wraps up the fall schedule with a trip to Kahuku, Hawaii for the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate, Nov. 5-7.
The first stop for the Volunteers in the spring will be the Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 28-29 in Tuscon, Ariz. The John Hayt Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., will mark the Vols only action in the month of February, the 17-19.
The month of March kicks off with a trip out west for the Southwestern Intercollegiate in Westlake Village, Calif., the 3-4.
Tennessee will spend the final two weeks of the regular season in Georgia. The Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational is first up for the Vols, March 14-16 at Forest Heights C.C.
The Volunteers will then head north to Augusta for the Adminstaff ASU Invitational April 4-6.
The Vols begin defense of their 2007 SEC title as the 2008 SEC Championship take place April 18-20 in Sea Island, Ga.
The NCAA East Regional will be held May 15-17 in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Council Fire Golf Course. Purdue University will host the 2008 NCAA Finals, scheduled to run May 28 to 31 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Lafayette, In.
Former Vol McGowan Finds Success On The "Challenge Tour":
Former Vol Ross McGowan has found success on the links in Europe. After competing in just four European Tour events, McGowan has turned his focus to the Challenge Tour and the move is paying off.
McGowan ranks fifth on the tour after competing in 10 events. His most recent accomplishments include taking top
honors at the Estoril Challenge de Portugal held June 28- July 1 at Qunita de Marinha in Portugal. McGowan fired an impressive scorecard of 68-68-70-66--272 finishing at 12-under-par to win the tournament by three strokes.
McGowan has a scoring average of 72.42 thus far in the 2007 season.
