Camping With The Colts Thursday

EYE ON CAMP:

The schedule called for one practice.

It also called for time off in the morning, and a day off of practice for many starters on offense and defense.

But that doesn't mean Thursday wasn’t important to Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy.

On Thursday, the fourth day of Colts 2007 Training Camp, Dungy kept the schedule the same as it has been for most of his 12 seasons as an NFL head coach. The Colts’ special teams worked at 3:30 p.m., with rest of the day dedicated to lifting and conditioning.

“It’s a big part of it, to get that middle-of-the-week surge back to the players, where they get some rest and recovery time, but they still get some things done,” Dungy said.

The Colts practiced twice on Monday and Tuesday - with Tuesday afternoon being a special teams practice – then practiced Wednesday morning before a Wednesday night practice.

“We were able to get our two-minute work in last night and we were able to get some coverage work today,” Dungy said. “They’re still able to get some rest.

“You try to emphasize that, especially to the young guys, that rest is just as important as work at this time of year.”

Also on Thursday, Dungy said he expects rookie defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock – a third-round selection in the 2007 NFL Draft – likely will begin practicing Monday.
