NASHVILLE (AP) -- Fans won't have a chance to watch the Tennessee Titans this afternoon. Practice is being moved indoors.
It's not to keep prying eyes off the Titans. But coach Jeff Fisher is moving indoors because of the weather forecast, heat and a tired, banged-up team needing some rest. Fans are not allowed to watch workouts at the indoor practice field because of a lack of space.
The Titans will practice outside tomorrow morning starting at nine a-m before enjoying their first day off since training camp opened July 27th.
Being ranked dead last among 32 N-F-L teams in total defense is a touchy subject with the Tennessee Titans.
Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said the team just wasn't good enough after missing out on a playoff berth by one loss after going 8-8 last year.
The Titans allowed over 360 yards per game and spent nine of the last 10 weeks at the bottom.
Free agent defensive end Simeon Rice with 121 career sacks met with team officials today and could provide a boost if his shoulder is healthy enough.
Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth said the goal is to move up 22 spots to where they ranked in 2002 and 2003.
Coach Jeff Fisher said they are taking little steps by focusing on turnovers, aggressive play, stripping the ball, overlapping, tackling and shoring up the run defense.
Defensive end Simeon Rice's tour of NFL teams brought him to Tennessee, and he was gone after a few hours.
General manager Mike Reinfeldt said the team brought him in and had doctors give him a physical.
Reinfeldt and coach Jeff Fisher each talked with him in what the general manager called a chance to become acquainted and find out how Rice is physically.
Tampa Bay waived the 12-year veteran last week because of an injured shoulder. He has 121 sacks, second only to Michael Strahan's 132-and-a-half among active players.
The Titans had 26 sacks last season, a big drop from 41 in 2005.
Rice, who took a physical with the New York Giants on Wednesday, left and is expected to meet with other teams.
The only players the Titans added Friday were a couple of defensive tackles using exemptions from NFL Europa, Lavale Sate and Quartez Vickerson.
