Tennessee arrived in the final country of its European tour Thursday morning when the Vols made the 65 km (90 minute) bus ride from Bratislava, Slovakia, to Vienna, Austria. UT’s three-country tour began August 8 when the Vols departed Atlanta, Ga., for Prague, Czech Republic.

Upon arrival in the Austrian capital, the team toured Schonbrunn Palace, Built in 1696, the former home of the Habsburg family was the site of performances by Mozart in the 18th century. The team was taken on a guided tour through 40 of the more than 1,400 rooms at the palatial palace.

“Today we started with a tour of the city which included a trip to the Schonbrunn Palace,” sophomore forward Duke Crews said. “It is incredible to see a house with more than a thousand rooms and a backyard that went on forever. This afternoon we got to spend some family time bonding as a team when we went to the amusement park. Vienna is a beautiful city. But, what we are really looking forward to, is tomorrow’s game.”

In the evening the team and supporters enjoyed a relaxing evening at the Viennese Prater, the oldest amusement park in the world. Located on the meadowland bordering the Danube River, the team spent about three hours roaming the park and enjoying the rides. One of the many highlights of the trip to the amusement park was the opportunity to ride on the Riesenard, a 250-foot Ferris wheel with gondolas for 10-12 people to enjoy the views of the city below.

The Vols will enjoy a more in depth tour of the city on Friday before meeting Klosterneuberg for their fifth and final game of the trip to Europe.
