Fulmer: Mitchell Likely Suffered A Concussion

September 2, 2007

(Sports Overtime) -- While the score was bad, there is some good news coming from the Vols' 45-31 season opening loss at California.

During a teleconference late Sunday afternoon, head coach Phillip Fulmer said Mitchell likely suffered a concussion. Tests performed on Mitchell came back negative, not showing any structural damage.

Mitchell, a senior, went down with 4:10 left in Saturday's game. He layed motionless for a few minutes, before being taken off on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. Mitchell was able to fly back with team.

At this point, it's unknown if Mitchell will play Saturday night when the Vols host Southern Miss for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
