Huntsville, AL. –Lindsay Gulin pitched a gem of a game Sunday Night to even the North Division Championship Series at two-games with tomorrow nights contest to decide the Northern Division Champion. The series victory will head to Montgomery and take on the Biscuits who wrapped up the South will an impressive 12-5 win over Mississippi earlier in the night.
Donnie Veal struggled with his control in the start. He walked the first two batters he faced and both would score the first run on a Adam Heether single and the second when Brendan Katin sent a sacrifice fly to left.
The Stars continued to grow the lead with a two out rally in the fourth inning. Alcides Escobar singled with two outs and scored on a double by Heether.
Huntsville sent nine to the plate in the sixth adding three more runs charged to reliever Paul Schappert.
Gulin over matched Tennessee’s batters all night pitching a complete game shutout. He walked three Smokies but struck out seven in the win. He also finished the game retiring the last fourth teen to the plate.
The best-of-five Series is now tied at 2-2 and will come down to tomorrow nights decisive game-five at Huntsville’s Joe Davis Stadium. Tennessee will start Mitch Atkins (1-1, 5.54) while the Stars are sending Steve Hammond (7-9, 4.69) the game will start at 8:05 eastern time.
