GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida coach Urban Meyer has referred to Tennessee as "the team we're playing this week," refusing to call his upcoming opponent by its proper name.
The ploy is one of the many motivational tactics he uses before rivalry games. His methods work, too. The fifth-ranked Gators haven't lost a rivalry game under Meyer and they hope to keep that streak intact tomorrow afternoon against the 22nd-ranked Volunteers.
The winner assumes command in the SEC East Division while the loser will be playing catchup.
Tennessee is 1-1 while Florida is 2-0 but against weaker opponents. The Gators also have a couple of key players injured.
