(UNDATED) Former Tennessee standout Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks was named the WNBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 8, through Sunday, July 14.
For Parker, who ranked first in the WNBA with 25.5 points per game last week, the Western Conference Player of the Week nod is her third of the season, second consecutive and the 13th of her career. She also led the West in field goal percentage (62 percent) and ranked third in the conference in rebounds per game (8.0). Parker, who also averaged 4.0 assists last week, led the Sparks to a 2-0 record, the team’s first two road wins of the season.
In a 94-78 win over Tulsa on July 11, Parker set a new season high in points with 30, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Her 14 made field goals against the Shock also matched a WNBA season high.
On July 14, Parker grabbed another eight rebounds to go along with 21 points and five assists in an 88-76 victory in Phoenix.
