MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Farragut pitchers Phillip Pfeifer and Xander Taylor combined for a no-hit shutout in the AAA state championship game, beating Columbia 2-0 to earn the school's fourth consecutive state championship and the seventh in nine seasons.
Anthony El Chibani and Nicky Delmonico scored the only two runs for the Admirals, but they didn't need any more offensive production thanks to a dominant pitching staff.
Staff ace and Vanderbilt signee Phillip Pfeifer started the game despite battling injury issues. He pitched an inning and a third before giving way to Xander Taylor, who did not allow a hit in the final 6.2 innings.
HARDIN VALLEY CLAIMS SOCCER TITLE
The Hardin Valley Hawks won their first-ever soccer championship, beating Science Hill 2-0 thanks to a pair of second-half goals by star striker Nick Skoda.
The Hawks finished the season undefeated, not shabby for a school which wasn't founded until three years ago.
