KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee women’s basketball coach Holly Warlick had a special surprise waiting for her as she returned to her high school alma mater Friday night.
The former Bearden High School two-sport star had her #22 basketball jersey retired prior to the Bulldogs’ home football game. Warlick had a large cheering section, with family, friends and members of the Lady Vol basketball team and staff there showing their support wearing Warlick #22 T-shirts.
After her accolades were read over the public address system and her jersey was revealed, the crowd began repeating her name in unison, cheering Holly Warlick, followed by the familiar five rhythmic claps.
Afterward, Warlick and her high school coach, Buddy Fisher, talked about her playing days at BHS. Please see that interview in the video above.
Warlick and her 2012-13 Lady Volunteers open the season with an exhibition game next Thursday, as they face Carson-Newman at Thompson-Boling Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
