KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Catholic Fighting Irish were one game away from a trip to the State Championship game in Cookeville a season ago. With most of their talent back and some new talent coming in, the Irish are ready to make a push for a State Title.
Head Coach Steve Matthews enters his second season leading the Irish and feels the team is in a great position after spending last season learning a system. "Last year was the installation process which took a while. So guys coming back with experience and knowledge of the offense and defense has made everything a lot easier as far as coaching is concerned."
Quarterback Zac Jancek feels much more comfortable heading into this season. "This is my second year playing quarterback so I've got another year of playing under my belt if you compare this team. We look a lot better than we did last season so we've got some guys stepping up."
Catholic opens the season in Week Zero hosting Notre Dame out of Chattanooga.
