Cart racers come together to help boy with genetic disorder

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) - A teaming up of go cart drivers, a local raceway and yourracecar.com is helping you Lucas Hembree, a boy with Sanfilippo Syndrome.

The racetrack will donate proceeds from a few specific benefit races this Saturday to Lucas' family to help buy a new wheelchair.

Lucas and his family visited a go cart race earlier this year and the 5-year old seemed to fall in love with the racing, so says racer Brad Campbell, "He came to the track and we put him in a cart and he really enjoyed it."

The guys at yourracecar.com are also lending a hand, donating autographed items for a silent auction at the track this Saturday. They are also donating 20% of all money raised through their website if you use a specific web address. Sherrie Bowers says, "They can go to yourracecar.com/Lucas and purchase items. Those will help the family."

Lucas' mother, Jennifer Hembree says the financial and emotional impact of the help can not be understated, "It makes everyday worth living to know people out there are willing to help."
