Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Head coach Eddie Courtney has been at Farragut High School in one capacity or another for over three decades.
One thing he always count on from his teams is good special teams play, which we saw the Admirals working on diligently at a recent practice.
But one thing you don't normally see is the Admirals finishing with a losing record, something which happened last year for the first time since 2001. Farragut TE/DE Billy Williams told Local8 Sports, "...We really don't like to talk about it, but it's in the back of our minds so every day we go hard because we don't want another 3-7 season."
Coach Courtney added, "...I hate it for last years Seniors, I really do. I've been in the business a long time and I know one thing about it. You're going to have seasons like that. We're going to have seasons where things don't go our way. We tried to make them go our way but they just didn't go our way. So our kids now know you've got to come back to work every day."
The Admirals return 11 starters, six on defense and five on offense including quarterback Bryan Phillips. In fact, Farragut should be strong at the skill positions and much improved on the defensive side of the ball. Lack of experience on the offensive line could slow things down a bit early.
The Admirals open the season on the road at Dobyns-Bennett.
