Countdown to Kickoff: Sevier County

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- If you watch Sevier County this fall, don't blink when the Smoky Bears are on offense. You just might miss a play.

Or two.

The Smoky Bears run a no-huddle, hurry up offense. Their goal is to snap the ball every eight-to-ten seconds.

Luke Manning will run the show for Sevier County. He gives the Smoky Bears experience at the quarterback position. But the talent on offense doesn't stop there, as the Bears should have plenty of options at the other skill positions.

And there's more to like about this Sevier County team.

Togetherness.

"I think this year we have more chemistry that we did last year," Manning said.

"If you see one football player, you're gonna see a gang of them with them. We're always together, always doing stuff together."

Monday marked the first day Tennessee prep teams could don full pads. Head coach Steve Brewer was pleased with what he saw from his squad.

"I just think they are business like, going about their work," Brewer said. "We've seen some excitement and some enthusiasm, but today we're just out here working and we've got a lot of work to do."

Sevier County went 10-2 last year and got knocked out of the second round of the playoffs. The Bears return four starters on both offense and defense.

Sevier County opens up the season at home August 23 against Bearden.
