MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- It's a new era for William Blount football.
Justin Ridge left Greenback and is now the Governors' new coach.
It's a move that's created buzz in the William Blount community.
"Everyone is buying in," offensive lineman Zack Barton said. "I mean, we have good coaches. People are talking about it around the school. It's bringing a lot of good attention."
William Blount put on a good show in the Blount County Jamboree. Facing perennial power Alcoa in the opening quarter, the Govs showed they can move the ball, scoring 21 points against the Tornadoes (Alcoa did win the quarter 35-21).
The exhibition revealed that Ridge has playmakers he can put on the field. His offense is wide open and uses a lot of wide receivers.
"They (fans) are gonna see a lot more players than they saw in the past," Ridge said.
"Hopefully they'll have some excitement about the points we hope to put on the board, and hopefully we'll hold the other team to not so many points. That's what I'm hoping for."
William Blount opens up the season Friday night at Loudon.
