Darius Thompson leaving Vols

Knoxville, Tenn--(WVLT) Darius Thompson announced on Twitter Tuesday night that he is leaving the Volunteers basketball team.

Thompson wrote, "I had an amazing freshman year. And that's why it's so hard to say goodbye...."

ESPN Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman has also reported that Thompson will transfer to Virginia.

Thompson played in 37 games last season averaging 2.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Thompson asked for his release from his scholarship after the hiring of head coach Donnie Tyndall.
