FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UT Release) Melissa Davin crushed a grand slam and Hannah Akamine drove in three runs to propel No. 2 Tennessee to a 9-2 win over Arkansas on Friday in the SEC opener for both teams at Bogle Park.
Tennessee (23-2, 1-0 SEC) scored two in the first off Akamine's two-run shot to left, two in the second and four in the third on Davin's grand slam. Arkansas (19-7, 0-1) scored two in the bottom of the third, but UT answered in the top of the fourth when Akamine ripped an RBI single
Davin finished 3-of-4 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored. Akamine was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Rainey Gaffin was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Ellen Renfroe improved to 14-0 with the win after striking out seven over seven innings with just one earned run allowed. Arkansas' Grace Moll (8-3) took the loss after allowing four earned runs over two innings of work.
Tennessee and Arkansas will play Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET.
