KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee coach Derek Dooley compares his young, inexperienced team's struggles to the German forces during the Allies' invasion of Normandy during World War II.
Speaking during his weekly media appearance on Monday, Dooley offered a 2-minute-long description of the confusion caused by the surprise of the Americans landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day and the Germans' slow reaction.
Dooley says right now "we're like the Germans in World War II ... like, 'Oh my God, the invasion is coming."' Dooley added that he didn't "want the German people to get upset at me. I'm not attacking (them), but that's what happened."
Maybe he didn't want to anger anyone, but someone usually gets upset whenever there is a comparison between sports and military battles.
