KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Football time in Tennessee is still two and a half months away, but that doesn't make the summer months slow ones for Vols' head coach Derek Dooley.
A typical summer session is filled with prospect evaluations, as well as camp time. This particular one had the UT athletic department front and center with the NCAA's Committee on Infractions.
"We're glad it's over," Dooley told WVLT Tuesday afternoon in Neyland Stadium after shooting a television promo with the station.
"This has been a process since I took the job. It's been a continuing process. We'll be glad when the decision comes out. We feel very confident that we presented our case fairly. We feel like we taken enough measures there that we can move forward now."
Dooley was one of several key athletic department figures that was in Indianapolis during the hearing. Tennessee expects to learn of any potential penalties from the NCAA in the next eight to twelve weeks.
This past week, Dooley also had to deal with the loss of a player. Defensive tackle Montori Hughes was dismissed from the team on Thursday for a violation of team rules.
"We never like any player to leave our program. Certainly, we're always there to help motivate, to teach, and educate. We want them to represent Tennessee the right way," Dooley said. "
"We want them to perform academically and we want them to perform on the football field and inevitably there's times when the two parties have to part ways. That's the way it is with Montori, but it will be a great opportunity for the other players on the team to step up and fill the void."
Up next for Dooley: trying to lure some of the nation's top high school prospects to campus to take part in summer camps.
"They're (the camps) very important. They're important to promote Tennessee. We want future fans and future students on our campus to get a feel of what it's like, but we also want great prospects that can help us win next year and that's what we're doing with the camp circuit."
Tennessee opens up the 2011 season September 3 at home against Montana.
