Ex-Lady Vols official responds to school's motion

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The lawyer for former Lady Vols media director Debby Jennings says discovery of information regarding former Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt should be included in his client's lawsuit against the school and athletic director Dave Hart.

David Burkhalter made his argument Thursday in a response to Tennessee's motion for a protective order that would forbid discovery of information related to Summitt's illness and the circumstances surrounding her departure as Tennessee's coach.

Tennessee said the requested information isn't relevant to Jennings' claim of disability retaliation. Burkhalter's response said granting the school's motion "would be the equivalent of granting the death penalty" to Jennings' disability retaliation claims.

Jennings is suing over allegations that age and sex discrimination led to her forced retirement after working 35 years at the school.
