SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Will McKamey son of Grace head coach Randy McKamey was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center on Friday during the fourth quarter of their game against South Pittsburgh.
The Grace Christian running back came out of the game in the fourth quarter after scoring a touchdown and collapsed on the sideline.
Tests at the hospital revealed a brain injury and McKamey is expected to remain in ICU for a few more days, but will likely not need surgery.
McKamey's parents are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and credit their faith for Will's recovery. "Randy and I feel overwhelmed and unworthy of the outpouring of support and prayer from all of you. We are truly grateful and we love you all!!"
Grace (9-1) received a first round bye in the 2A playoffs.
The communtiy has organized a prayer vigil for Will tomorrow at 4:24 at Grace Christian.
