KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said Thursday that contract talks between the University and basketball coach Bruce Pearl are nearing a successful end.
"We gave Bruce the contract on October 8. He gave it back to us on the 22 with some things he wanted us to look at," Hamilton said Thursday at a charity banquet in his honor.
"The chancellor and I looked at those and we've passed that along to our attorneys now. That's where it is.
"I do think [Pearl signing the contract is] a formality at this point."
Pearl had his original contract terminated after admitting he lied to NCAA investigators. Part of UT's self-imposed punishment for the violation is a $1.5 million salary reduction over the next five years.
The new contract reflects the revised financial terms resulting from the salary reduction.
