Henry Co. beats Powell 17-14 to win Class 5A title

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Kyler Ainley's 32-yard field goal with 1:52 left lifted Henry County to a 17-14 victory over Powell Friday night in the Class 5A Tennessee High School championship at Tennessee Tech.

Powell (14-1) had a late drive, reaching the Henry County 15, but a costly fumble was recovered by the Patriots' Randall Dunlap to secure the victory with 31 seconds to go.

The fumble recovery, seven tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack earned Dunlap the defensive MVP nod for Henry County (15-0).

In a matchup between touted running backs, both Henry County's Shaquille Allen and Powell's Dy'Shawn Mobley put on great shows. Allen rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries and Mobley, the game's offensive MVP, picked up 209 yards and a score on 24 carries.

Henry County became the third team Friday to win a championship in its first trip to the finals.
