KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Ice Bears will wear the Orange and White of the University of Tennessee in their game on Friday night thanks to a one time exception given to them by UT.
The idea has been thought about for several years according to Ice Bears head coach Mike Craigen who says, "We've been kicking it around for several years. We had to get NCAA clearance. We've got it worked out. We get to wear the big orange power "T" and hopefully we have some success doing it."
The players understand what the University means to the city and what an honor it is to wear the Power "T" according. Center Kevin Swider states, "We go tailgate, watch the game and follow them, too. So I understand the tradition and it's an honor to be able to wear the jersey's this weekend." Defenseman Mark Van Vliet echoes those comments, "That school runs the city and the community really backs them and we're happy to be a part of it and we're looking forward to being a part of it."
Swider knows the team plays for something bigger themselves on Friday night, "We're going to look pretty sharp out here and represent Knoxville, not just for us but for UT."
