OKLAHOMA CITY (WVLT/SUBMITTED) -- For her outstanding performances in the circle this past weekend to lead Tennessee to a pair of wins over top-ranked Alabama, UT senior pitcher Ivy Renfroe has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week and the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week.
For the week, Ivy Renfroe went 2-0 with an 0.68 ERA and eight strikeouts over 10.1 innings against then-No. 1/2 Alabama. She tossed a scoreless seventh in Tennessee's thrilling 4-3 win on Friday and thre seven strong frames with seven strikeouts in UT's 2-1 win on Saturday. On Sunday, she threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout.
On the season, Ivy Renfroe leads Tennessee with an 8-1 record, a 0.86 ERA, five complete games and a .162 opponents' batting average. She is also tied for the team lead with three shutouts. She has tallied 56 strikeouts over 56.2 innings of work.
Earlier today, Tennessee moved up to No. 6 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll and No. 7 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
Ivy Renfroe was also named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Pitcher of the Week.
Ivy Renfroe is Tennessee's first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week since Raven Chavanne earned the honors on May 1, 2012. UT's last Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week honors came on May 3, 2011, when Chavanne shared the accolades with Fordham's Jen Mineau.
Ivy Renfroe joins elite company as just the fifth Lady Vol to earn both the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week awards for the same week. The other Tennessee greats to achieve that feat include Monica Abbott (twice: week of March 13-19, 2006, and week of Feb. 12-18, 2007), Tonya Callahan (twice: week of April 30-May 6, 2007, and week of April 14-20, 2008), Lindsay Schutzler (Week of Feb. 13-19, 2006) and Ashton Ward (Week of Feb. 4-10, 2008).
