KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Are you ready for game day? Football is almost upon us here in Rocky Top.
If you've been holding back, it's time to let the Vol excitement out.
"I got my ticket today," said Kathryn Haislip. "You feel like you're in your own little family. Everyone's in orange and they are cheering everyone on."
"We're going to do a little tailgating, have fun before the game starts," said Jawaun Wilson.
The start of the 2011 season is fast approaching, and that means big orange business is in full swing.
"As expected it's picking up every day," said Lindsey Rohling, the marketing director for Alumni Hall, "One of the big sellers has been the checkerboard overalls. Everybody just kinda getting geared up for game day."
"Just called DirectTV so we're going get it on TV," said Casey Larue. "Having some people over for a BBQ."
Folks at Alumni Hall in Turkey Creek says things have been so good lately, they're more than doubling their size to offer you more tees and trinkets.
"Wednesday we're kinda unveiling the new half," said Rohling.
Calhoun's on the River expects the Vol Navy to wade in, not leaving an empty seat in the house.
"I think a lot of people underestimate the economic impact that the university and the sports do have on our economy," said Bart Fricks with Copper Cellar Corporation.
"People coming in, not only pay for the tickets," he said, "They do dine out, in our community. They do stay in the hotels in our community."
All that translates to millions of tax dollars from Knoxville and surrounding counties.
"But for us, more importantly, it provides opportunity and income for our people," said Fricks.
Just be patient if you're waiting for a table, and cheer the Vols on to victory.
"Football is back. Football is back," said Fricks.
Alumni Hall will have special hours Friday, opening from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, the store opens at 8 a.m.
The Tennessee Volunteers will take on the Montana Grizzlies at 6 p.m. Saturday. The game will be aired on pay per view, for about $30. Contact your cable provider for more information.
