Knoxville, TN (WVLT-TV), Kevin Julian has resigned as head football coach at Halls High School.
Coach Julian is certainly one of the good guys and will land back on the sidelines, I'm sure. In fact, he's offered his help to the team he has been a part of in one form or another for the past two decades.
Coach Julian told us tonight that he and Principal Mark Duff agreed that this was the right time for him to step down.
It's no secret, there has been some negativity directed towards coach Julian and the program from what is a passionate football community.
In fact, it was brought to our attention last month that a players meeting with the principal was called on school grounds.
Through it all, Julian says the administration has been supportive assisting him in making decisions based on the best interest of the student athletes.
On the field, it's been a difficult two year run for the coach with his Red Devils going just 1-19.
A former player, assistant coach and then head coach for the past decade, Julian leaves the position in good standing.
There's been talk of unrest in the community regarding the lack of success by the program in recent years, but the 2007 region coach of the year has been about more than wins and losses, taking great pride in being a positive influence for the players.
And it's because of those young men he feels the time is right to make a change saying, "..." the principal and myself, we just felt like it was time to do it. He came to me today and basically we discussed it. And so. We want to do what is best for the kids at the school. And you know we felt like together this was the best decision. Not great timing, but it is what it is."
