Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT/Submitted) -- The Rocket City United men’s soccer team from Huntsville AL weren’t able to escape the heat by traveling north to play the Knoxville Force Wednesday evening. “Warm-ups” were held in 90 degree weather at Regal Soccer Stadium on UT’s campus. The teams hit the field at 7:30 with fans still finding their seats.
Travis Bolton of the Force drove the first goal from 20 yards out 41:31 minutes into the first half. The score at the end of the first half: Knoxville Force—1, Rocket City United—0.
When the second half started the temperature had “cooled” to 86. Both teams had an equal five shots on goal in the first half but Rocket City came out firing. United scored their first goal on a corner kick at 60:11 in the second half to tie the game at one goal apiece. At 67:09, Nial McCabe scored the Force’s second goal on an assist from Robbie Hill to once again put the Force up by one. Rocket City however, would have one last goal in them as they scored a second goal at 84:11. Rocket City came into the game in second place of the Southeast Flight of NPSL’s large South Division while the Force were in fourth. Final Score: Knoxville Force—2, Rocket City—2.
