KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT-TV) -- Fresh off of claiming the SEC tournament softball championship Saturday night, the Lady Vols learned they will host a regional in the national tournament.
The squad got together Sunday night at Lee Softball stadium to watch the selection show and in what was a big surprise, the nation's #7 team received a #14 national seed.
"I'm a little confused," Lady Vol outfielder Kelly Grieve said after learning of her team's seeding.
"We're definitely not a 14 seed in my opinion. We beat a lot of those top seeded programs multiple times. It will certainly put a fire under our belt to do it again."
The Lady Vols will play Liberty Friday evening at 6:30. A win puts them back on the diamond Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
It is a double elimination tournament. Should the Lady Vols advance out of the Knoxville Regional, they would most likely play at number three-seeded Texas.
