Lady Vols have experience to make 9th title run

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WVLT) -- Tennessee coach Pat Summitt finally has a shot at reaching the NCAA championship and competing on a national level with the likes of top-ranked Connecticut.

Summitt's entire team returns from last season,

It's been three full seasons since Summitt canceled the series with the Huskies. Since then, Tennessee has won one national title and Connecticut two.

Tennessee has made early exits from the past two NCAA tournaments, but Summitt says this year's fourth-ranked Lady Vols have the size and experience to make a tournament run.

Summitt stirred the rivalry between her and Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma recently by suggesting she canceled the series because the Huskies coach has a "compromised" approach to recruiting.

Tha Lady Vols start their season tomorrow against Carson-Newman at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game will not be televised.
