Chicago, IL--(WVLT-TV), With the possibility of Pat Summitt calling it quits at season's end, the Lady Vols have vowed to leave it all out on the floor this postseason. So far so good. With a 16th SEC Tournament title in hand, the Ladies are locked in to making their legendary coach and loyal fans proud. Pat told WVLT on Wednesday that she may or may not coach next season. it is what it is said the coach, who's main focus is getting her team to focus on the task at hand.
The road to Denver begins just outside of Chicago at the Allstate Arena. The road for your Local-8 Sports team began in Knoxville and nearly 9 hours later continues in the land of Lincoln. After passing by US Cellular Field, aka, the Home of the White Sox, and then the impressive Sears Tower, our first stop was the Arena where the Blue Deamons of DePaul call home. At first glance, it looks like an Arabian palace. Now I saw no genie, but the Lady Vols will be playing on St.Patrick's day. This group of Seniors certainly can use a little luck of the Irish having missed out on the Final-4 the past three seasons.
There are always several story lines this time of year, the most obvious to tip things off is Tennessee first round opponent, Pat Summitt's Alma mater, UT-Martin.
As the Coach put it, I like my alma mater, but I like the Lady Vols advancing even more. So will the thousands of fans expetced to wish the legend and her beloved Lady Vols well.
Pat's formula is and has always been simple, defense wins games and rebounds win championships. The coach will be the first to tell you, it's executed by working hard and smart and above all by putting team before self.
The fun begins Saturday just after 4pm. ET. on ESPN2. Our coverage of the Lady Vols continues all weekend on air and on line here at volunteertv.com. Stay with WVLT and Local-8 News as we follow the Lady Vols and Coach Summitt during the program's 31st NCAA Tournament run.
