LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The mayor of Louisville is urging residents to paint the city red to support the University of Louisville men's and women's basketball teams as they head into the Final Four in their respective tournaments.
Mayor Greg Fischer declared Friday to be Cardinal Red Day.
Fischer wants residents to wear red, to decorate their houses and businesses with red and to plaster red on their social media accounts.
A proclamation for the day is online at www.louisvilleky.gov .
The Cardinals men's basketball team plays Wichita State in Atlanta on Saturday. The women's team plays Sunday in New Orleans against California.
The trips mark the 10th time a program had both teams make it that far. Only Connecticut has won both titles in the same season. That was in 2004
