MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - It was a banner night for Morristown East and West as the schools swept the Kickoff Classic doubleheader.
Morristown East was led by the duo of quarterback Logan Wallace (over 300 yards of total offense and 3 TDs) and running back Matt Thompson (4 rushing TDs) in their 52-7 win over West Greene. The win is a big improvement for a Hurricanes squad that went 1-9 a season ago. Coach Dwayne Hatcher said that the team has been preparing for this moment for a long time. "We started this back in November, preparing for this year. We've been very demanding. They've answered the challenge doing anything we've asked them to do. And tonight was a reward for a lot of hard work for these kids," Hatcher said.
Morristown West used their speed to run away from Whitley County, KY for a 42-13 win. The Trojans had nearly 450 yards of offense as they got off to a 1-0 start to the season.
