KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/SUBMITTED) – The No. 3/2 Tennessee softball team hosts Holy Cross, Campbell, Western Kentucky Georgia Southern and College of Charleston from March 7-9 in the Tennessee Tournament at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
A total of 13 softball games will be played this weekend with 12 at Lee Stadium and Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. Campbell vs. College of Charleston game at the University of Tennessee rec fields on Sutherland Avenue.
Tennessee (17-1) will play five games this weekend, starting with back-to-back games Friday afternoon against Holy Cross (1-3) and Campbell (13-8). UT plays Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m. and Campbell at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Lady Vols host Western Kentucky (11-6-1) at 2 p.m. Tennessee plays the final two games of the invite on Sunday, starting with a 2 p.m. game against Georgia Southern (14-5) followed by a 4:30 p.m. game against College of Charleston at 4:30 p.m.
All five of Tennessee’s games will feature a free live video broadcast, free live stats and a live blog on UTSports.com. Brian Rice and former Lady Vol Shelby Burchell King will be on the call for Tennessee’s games against Holy Cross, Campbell and Western Kentucky. Rice will be on call for the Georgia Southern and College of Charleston games, which will also be radio broadcasted through The Vol Network and Sports Animal 990 AM.
UT is coming off a pair of wins over Wright State on Wednesday.
Hannah Akamine hit two home runs in UT's 9-0 (6) win vs. the Raiders in the first game. Ellen Renfroe threw a six-inning shutout with nine strikeouts.
Rainey Gaffin threw a six-strikeout, six-inning no-hitter in her first start as a pitcher in UT's 9-0 (6) Game 2 win. Gaffin is the first player to throw a no-no in her first start in the circle since Monica Abbott did it in 2004. It was also the 45th no-hitter in Tennessee softball history.
UT is batting .337 as a team and averaging 6.56 runs per game. Freshman Annie Aldrete is hitting a team-high .455 (20-for-44) with six doubles, one triple, two homers and 15 RBIs. Freshman Megan Geer is batting .448 (26-for-58) with eight doubles, two homers, 14 RBIs and eight stolen bases. Madison Shipman is batting .389 (21-for-54) and lead the team with six homers and 16 RBIs.
Tennessee pitchers have combined for a 1.42 ERA and 147 strikeouts over 118 innings. Opposing teams are hitting just .175 against the UT pitching staff. Senior ace Ellen Renfroe leads the way with a 10-0 record and a 0.64 ERA over 11 appearances and nine starts. All nine of Renfroe's starts have been complete games and she has fanned 85 batters over 65.1 frames.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
Tennessee and Holy Cross will square off for the first time in history.
Holy Cross is 1-3 after splitting a doubleheader at Tennessee State on March 4 and falling in two games at Tennessee Tech on March 5.
Holy Cross is hitting .255 as a team and averaging 4.0 runs per game. The Crusaders have four batters hitting over .375 (min 7 ABs). Senior Sarah Free is hitting .385 with a team-high two homers and five RBIs.
Holy Cross pitchers have combined for a 7.50 ERA through the team's first four games. Gennifer Durham has seen the most action in the circle so far, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and seven strikeouts over 12.0 innings and two starts.

Freshman Milly Martinet is the Camels' top power hitter, batting .397 with six homers, two doubles and 22 RBIs.
The Camels' pitchers have combined for a 2.59 ERA. Katie Baker has seen the most action in the circle, going 5-3 with a 2.65 ERA and 78 strikeouts over 60.2 frames. Courtney Roberts is 3-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 40.1 frames.

Tennessee is 5-0 all-time against Western Kentucky.
Western Kentucky is coming off a 7-2 win over Indiana State and an 8-5 win over Wright State on March 1.
Western Kentucky is hitting .280 as a team and features three players hitting over .300. Olivia Watkins leads the team with a .516 batting average (33-for-64) with two doubles, one triple, four RBIs, 18 runs and 16 stolen bases.
The Hilltoppers' pitchers have combined for a 2.64 ERA and opponents are hitting .211 against them. Emily Rousseau is 6-5 with a 2.74 ERA and 58 strikeouts over 74 innings pitched. Hannah Miniard is 5-1 with a 2.12 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 36.1 frames.

Tennessee is 9-0 all-time against Georgia Southern.
UT took a 1-0 win at Georgia Southern in the Eagle Round Robin on Feb. 8. Ellen Renfroe had a 10-strikeout, two-hit shutout and Melissa Davin hit a solo homer in the second inning. GSU ace Sarah Purvis had 10 strikeouts over seven innings.
Georgia Southern is on a five-game winning streak. The Eagles are coming off a 2-0 win over Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
Georgia Southern is hitting .265 as a team and has three players hitting .320 or better (min 30 ABs). Kourtny Thomas has been GSU's top offensive weapon, hitting .333 with six homers, two doubles, 20 RBIs and nine runs. Shelby Morrill has hit .320 with three homers, three doubles, two triples, 13 RBIs and 11 runs.
