KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- First year Lady Vol basketball coach Holly Warlick picked up a major victory off the court early Tuesday evening.
Springfield, Oregon's Mercedes Russell announced that she'll attend Tennessee, picking the Lady Vol over Louisville.
Russell wrote on her Twitter account: "I've enjoyed having the opportunity to meet all these coaches and players from different schools, but it's finally coming to an end! I'm happy to say that I will be playing at the University of Tennessee!!"
Russell, a versatile 6'5" post player, is considered the nation's number one recruit in the class of 2013.
As a junior, she averaged 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 5.8 blocks a game.
Russell told KVAL-TV that the Lady Vol coaching staff was "jumping, screaming, and yelling in the phone."
She also said Tennessee compared the magnitude her commitment to that of former Lady Vol great Candace Parker.
