KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Meighan Simmons scored 28 points and set a Tennessee record with eight 3-pointers as the No. 9 Lady Volunteers beat Lamar 99-55 on Wednesday night.
Simmons, a freshman who has scored in double digits every game this season, opened with back-to-back 3s and had 17 points by halftime.
The Lady Vols (7-1) grabbed a 12-0 lead as Lamar missed its first nine shots before Monique Whittaker hit a layup with 15:12 left in the half. The Lady Cardinals (5-2) committed 29 turnovers, leading to 33 points for Tennessee.
The Lady Vols shot 7 of 13 from behind the arc to take a 49-27 halftime lead. They finished with 15 3-pointers, tying a school record.
Shekinna Striklen scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Tennessee.
