Athens, GA--(UTSports) Through one round of competition at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., Lady Vol golfer Erica Popson is tied for 20th at even-par 72.
The senior is one of 12 golfers who shot even-par on the first day and is five strokes behind San Jose State's Regan De Guzman's lead.
Popson, who started her day on the 10th tee, birdied on the 14th hole, followed by a bogey on the 15th, to finish the back nine at even-par. The Davenport, Fla.-native carded two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine to wrap up the first day at even-par 72.
"I was a little bit disappointed," Popson said. "I felt like I played a little better than I scored today. I had a couple of bad shots that cost me a couple of shots on the scorecard. I would have liked to be under par today, but I don't think even par will hurt me too much. It keeps me in the game. Hopefully I can come out and play really well tomorrow and capitalize on some of the opportunities I missed out on today."
The NCAA Championship consists of 72 holes over four days. Second round action for Popson will begin at 12:48 p.m. ET. You can follow along at GolfStat.com.
