KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Powell High School senior running back Dyshawn Mobley has always been driven to succeed. He's been a winner his entire life and was a key part of a talented Panther team last season. Following an undefeated regular season, Mobley was suspended for a violation of team rules during the playoffs.
"It was devastating," Mobley said. "When I couldn't play, I knew I had let my teammates down and the entire Powell community. I'm working to get better."
Wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt, Mobley watched from the sidelines as his teammates battled, but came up short against an Anderson County team they had pounded earlier in the year.
Just days after being eliminated, Mobley went back to work by training at the Johnny Long Training Academy. He's bigger, faster, and stronger and more mature with almost a year to learn from his mistakes.
"We talked about some of the great guys that came through Tennessee and some of the mistakes they made," Long said. "They were offered a second chance to get better and to show it truly was a mistake."
Mobley continues to push himself each and every day. He runs at the stadium and track at Powell when he's not training with Tennessee's former strength and conditioning staff.
He's very focused on finishing what he started last season. Making a run toward a state championship is at the top of his priorities.
"It would mean a lot to this team," Mobley said. "It would mean a lot to the community. I can't remember the last time that Powell brought home a gold ball. We have to lay everything on the line. This is our last chance. It's now or never."
The last chance for an extremely talented and more mature Powell star. Kickoff for the 2011 season is August 19th at Rhea County.
