BEAVERTON, OR (LMU Release) -- Division II Bulletin announced that the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team is ranked 25th in NCAA Division II in its preseason edition, which was released Friday afternoon.
The Railsplitters tallied a 26-6 mark last season, highlighted by a rise to the No.1 national ranking in January, the first program in South Atlantic Conference history to earn that distinction. LMU made their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Basketball Championship, advancing to the second round for the first time in school history with a win over King College.
Heading into the program's fifth year under the direction of head coach Josh Schertz, the Railsplitters are in the midst of an unmatched run in the history of Lincoln Memorial basketball. Since Schertz took over command of the program, LMU has compiled an 87-32 mark and a 54-7 record in Tex Turner Arena. Over the last two seasons, the Railsplitters have tallied a 53-9 mark which stands as the best record in the South Atlantic Conference over that span.
Lincoln Memorial will return ten letterwinners and eight of their top 11 scorers from last season, led by All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team selection Vincent Bailey. Bailey led the Railsplitters in scoring last season at 10.9 points per contest and finished second in rebounding with 6.3 per game.
Jake Troyli and Cam Carden will also be returning to the Railsplitters' lineup after tallying 9.6 and 8.8 points respectively per contest last season. Lorenza Ross will also play a big role this season for the Railsplitters, as the sophomore looks to build on the 2011-12 campaign in which he earned the nod for the league's All-Freshman Team.
The Railsplitters' rotation will be bolstered by a group of talented newcomers, as Tim Pierce, Curtis Webb, Curtis McMillion, Paul Woodson, Tristan Hicks and Luquon Choice look to make a tremendous impact this season.
LMU kicks off practice on October 15th and opens the season with an exhibition game at Florida State University on October 30th.
