KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- A pair of Tennessee signees have asked for releases from their basketball scholarships to Tennessee, according to reports.
Chris Jones and Kevin Ware, the only two members of the Vols' 2011 recruiting class, have both requested that they be released from their letters of intent following the firing of coach Bruce Pearl and his assistants.
Ware, a shooting guard from Georgia, told GoVolsXtra.com that he has sent Tennessee a letter asking for his release; however, a UT spokesman told Volunteer TV Tuesday that the University had not received any such communication from Ware.
Jones, a point guard from Memphis attending prep school in North Carolina, told WNML's Josh Ward that he also asked for his release.
A UT official told Volunteer TV that the University's stance is typically to wait until a new head coach is hired, and to allow that coach to decide whether to release players.
