Source: Williams failed substance abuse policy

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Tennessee senior center Brian Williams violated Tennessee's substance abuse policy late in the basketball season, a source tells Volunteer TV.

Former Vols head coach Bruce Pearl told media members Williams was missing time due to a back injury.

Williams missed two games, but returned in time for the SEC Tournament.

Pearl's failure to disclose the information about the failed drug test is being labeled by some as one of the reasons the UT administration changed its stance on his viability as Tennessee's coach.

GoVolsXtra.com is reporting that a Tennessee basketball player's family used extra tickets for the Kentucky game, which is a secondary NCAA violation.

The player's name was not disclosed.

The report states that the ticket miscue is the March violation which caused the “dynamics of our case with the NCAA” to change, as Mike Hamilton stated in the press release announcing Pearl's termination.
