Charlie Strong turns down UT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Sources close to the situation have told Local 8 Sports that Charlie Strong tuned down an offer to become the head coach at the University of Tennessee.

The deal was believed to be in the area of 3.5 million dollars a year. Strong is expected to reach a new deal with the University of Louisville.

No new coaching candidates have been identified at this time for UT. Local 8 Sports has learned that the Vols wish list did include Jon Gruden and Mike Gundy.

Reports out of Louisville also say Strong has been offered a long term deal by the Cardinals which would begin by paying him some 4.1 million dollars annually.
