Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT/Submitted)-- Tennessee rising junior Jarnell Stokes helped lead the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team to a lopsided 88-29 victory over Ivory Coast Thursday in the opening game of preliminary play at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.
Stokes led a U.S. frontcourt assault that netted 66 points in the paint. The Memphis, Tenn., native scored 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbed four rebounds in 11 minutes of action. All 12 players on the U.S. roster scored in the triumph.
He also recorded a steal and an assist and was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
The Americans return to action Friday vs. China.
Team USA is in Group D for preliminary play; Russia is the fourth team in that group.
