JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- The Student Government at East Tennessee State University has overwhelmingly approved a resolution to start a new football program.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/Yg7H35 ) reported the vote on Tuesday was 22 in favor and five opposed with one abstention.
Student approval clears the way for ETSU President Brian Noland to request the Tennessee Board of Regents to approve a football program. The proposal included imposing a $125 fee per student per semester to fund football.
ETSU's previous football program was canceled for financial reasons in 2003. A proposal to establish a new football program was turned down by students in 2007.
